Comprehensive Approach

I partner with students to guide them through each aspect of the college admissions process with the comprehensive package. We begin with an initial family session.  Frequency of sessions depends on whether students start as sophomores or juniors.  If students begin working with CCC as sophomores, we will meet every six weeks to two months until the end of junior year, when we typically start meeting every week to every other week as we work on essays and applications.  After all applications are submitted, we will meet as needed to analyze outcomes and discuss guidelines for any necessary follow-up, until the final transition meeting in June or July prior to student’s fall matriculation to college.  Meetings may be in person or by Zoom, and emails, phone calls, and texts are welcome in between sessions.

The following gives an overview of many of the areas we cover together:

Assessment and Planning

A crucial first step is to help students gain a deeper understanding of themselves, including their values, interests, aptitudes, experiences, and talents. Based on a student’s needs, the assessment stage may include:

●      Personality, career, interest, and lifestyle assessments designed to reveal strengths and possible college program and career options

●      Student and parent questionnaires

●      Comprehensive intake and college criteria exploration session

●      Review of courses and grades, school profile, test scores, and extracurricular activities.  Course recommendation guidance and extracurricular development as it relates to college planning

●      ACT/SAT information and planning

●      Letters of recommendation planning and guidance

●      Financial resources and guidance to help identify financial fit

College Search and Creating a College List

After thoroughly analyzing each student’s unique areas of interest, preferences and needs, I do extensive research to develop a personalized list of colleges for the student to further explore.

●      Introduction to our college admissions search and planning platform, Custom College Plan, and all the resources I’ve compiled for my students and families

●      College list session with the family where we discuss each college I’ve recommended and review the resources I’ve compiled

●      Detailed college research session with student, using a college profile template to help students identify the important elements to know about each college such as program requirements, admission details, academic majors, financial aid opportunities, extracurricular offerings, college credit transfer, and campus environment

●      College visit resources and planning guidance

Essays and Applications

I work with students to help them highlight their unique stories, convey their strengths, experiences and abilities strongly and effectively, and craft the best possible application for each college. This process includes:

●      Personal essay development, which begins with identifying the purpose and elements of a college admissions essay, includes brainstorming work, topic exploration exercises, and ongoing guidance, review and feedback throughout each phase

●      Learning how to write effectively and efficiently

●      Supplemental essay(s) guidance and support; resources for specific colleges

●      Development of a timeline with sessions and check-ins to keep students on track

●      Common App tutorial, guidance, and resources to help students navigate the applications and present information effectively

●      Strategizing deadlines/setting up organizational plan for applications

●      Preparation for admission interviews

●      Guidance with analyzing college acceptances, decision-making and deferment or waitlist follow-up

Financial Aid Guidance

●      FAFSA and CSS Profile resources and guidance

●      Financial aid overview

●      Support identifying scholarships and assistance with essays required for scholarships

●      Analyzing financial aid packages

Transition to College

●      Assistance with college commitment, housing process, and identifying campus resources and strategies for success

●      Resources for college navigation and career coaching
